Up until a few years ago, you were either a confirmed alpine skier or only went ski touring. There was no changing sides! Times have luckily changed and today no one will bat an eyelid if you go alpine skiing on Saturday and head for the hills with your touring skis the next day.
The centre on Dobratsch is the Rosstratten car park at 1,732 m above sea level. It is the starting point for a 15 km network of cross-country ski trails and several scenic footpaths that are also suitable for snowshoes. If you reach the summit at an altitude of 2,176 m, you will find a new restaurant with accommodation. The way down is less strenuous for skiers than for those on snowshoes. Unless, of course, you happen to have a mini bob in your rucksack. A fun alternative to sledging and becoming increasingly popular again, the bob is ideal for getting downhill quickly if you're not on skis. Dobratsch is also home to Carinthia's ski jumpers. The Villach Alpenarena with its 90 m, 60 m, 30 m and 15 m ski jumps is located at the bottom of the mountain. Covering 15 km, the cross-country ski trails on Dobratsch are suitable for both skaters and parallel skiers alike.
