The Villach-Warmbad / Lake Faak / Lake Ossiach Region luckily no longer has to do without a golf course: the 18-hole “Alpe Adria Golfclub Schloss Finkenstein” course between Villach and Lake Faak opened its doors in May 2005. Schloss Finkenstein has not only given the new golf course its name: the 200-year-old building has been completely renovated, converted into the clubhouse and restaurant and creates a refined atmosphere throughout. In addition to the historic house, what is most striking about the course is the impressive panorama with the Karawanken Range and Mittagskogel to the south and Dobratsch to the west. Course length? Very long! The par-72 course can be best described as slightly hilly but without any great elevation gains. Length: 6,370 metres and area: approx. 70 hectares. Six ponds add to the scenic interest, sporting challenge and will no doubt prove attractive to stray balls. There are six tees per hole making it ideal for both pros and rookies alike. Gary Foster and his team are to run the golf academy.
The region has one tremendous advantage that will also affect course utilisation: the sun shines down on Villach-Warmbad / Lake Faak / Lake Ossiach for 1,920 hours a year. Perfect conditions therefore at Schloss Finkenstein for a long golfing season from March to November.
