It goes without saying that all kinds of water sports are the main activities on Lake Faak and Lake Ossiach. But as even the most confirmed water babies want to take some exercise on dry land every now and then, there are scenic walking and jogging trails round both lakes. On Lake Faak five different Nordic walking trails between 4.5 and 10 km in length have been tested and signposted. The level of difficulty depends on the elevation gain, which ranges from 75 to 120 metres. Detailed information is available and even tells you how many kilometres of the routes run on roads and how many on paths through woods or meadows.
Similar facilities are to be found on Lake Ossiach. Steindorf, for example, is the starting point for the Nordic walking and running trails in the Nordic Fitness Sports Park™ on the Bleistätter Moors. They also link up with the trails in Ossiach on the southern shore of the lake. The lengths of these routes vary between 4 and 11 kilometres, which means that there’s something to suit every walker and runner. Not only are the routes well signposted, but also shown on maps to ensure that your walk doesn’t end up being an orienteering marathon. Warmbad-Villach also boasts some lovely trails in the woods that attract the locals in particular.
