As a town of culture and congresses located at the foot of the Dobratsch, Villach with its historic old town is an important business location in Carinthia, Austria’s southernmost province. Villach, surrounded by mountains and lakes and located at the Drava river, is just a few minutes by car from the Italian border. Also to Slovenia it is no great distance. Thus the town at the Drava is the archetype of an Alpine-Adriatic town!
Villach tempts with numerous events. At the big “Perchten” parade, the“Perchten”, following an old tradition, accompany St Nicholas through the town centre to keep dark powers off the homes. Around the parish church and on the Rathausplatz square a charming Christkindl market with many stalls is set up. This picturesque scenery and the free supporting programme are a popular centre of attraction for visitors from farand near.
There is a lot of fun at the carnival events organised every year by the different carnival guilds. To these events Villach owes its sobriquet of “Austria’s centre of carnival revellers“.
Villach’s local mountain, the Dobratsch, serves with its cross-country trails and walking paths as a recreation area close to the town.
Right at the foot of the mountain is the “Villacher Alpen- Arena“ event centre with ski jumps which are used in winter and summer alike.
In the Villach-Warmbad spa resort, already known in Roman times, your body and soul can relax after an eventful day and you can recharge your batteries for the rest of the holidays.
