Österreich Kärnten Radfahren Drau Weißenstein Villach

Unspoilt countryside, crisp clear air, warm hospitality: the atmospheric little town lies in the lower Drau Valley, to the northwest of Villach.

Its boundaries stretch from the valley into the Gail Valley Alps in the south and the Nock Mountains in the north.

Relaxing or exercising outdoors comes easy in the market town of Weißenstein. You can set off exploring the area by bike or on the R1 Drau cycle path or else go walking in Weißenstein. If you prefer jogging or Nordic walking, you will definitely feel at home here with all the options available. A perfect place to stop is the inviting terrace at the Kellerberg leisure centre on the Drau cycle path. Anyone for tennis? There are no fewer than ten well-tended tennis courts for your match here. How about a dip afterwards? Head for the natural pool in Puch.

Like in the good old days: crossing the Drau by ferry from Lansach to Feffernitz. It operates between the market towns of Weißenstein and Paternion in the summer months. You can also fish near Weißenstein. Look out for trout, pike, char, huchen, carp, etc. There is 13 kilometres of fish water just waiting for you to cast your rod.

Of cultural and historic interest: Schloss Kellerberg-Rothauer, Weißenstein castle ruins, Töplitsch village arch (10 metres high), various churches, the sculpture trail with its 15 sites and Rauter’s glass blowing studio.
